World Affairs Council Leadership Meeting
In June, the World Affairs Council – Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky hosted the 2026 World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) Council Leadership Meeting. The opening reception at TQL Stadium featured a fireside chat with Jeff Berding, President and Co-CEO of FC Cincinnati. Berding discussed how elite sports serve as engines for economic growth and international diplomacy, highlighting Cincinnati’s role in the global sports arena.
First Cincinnati Climate Week
Also in June, the city celebrated its inaugural Cincinnati Climate Week, organized by the regional environmental group Green Umbrella. The week-long event showcased over 50 activities, including tours of solar-powered facilities and workshops on local air quality. This initiative underscored Cincinnati’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its alignment with global efforts to combat climate change.
Ohio River Summit
In May, the Ohio River Commission announced the Ohio River Summit, scheduled for June 10-11 in Cincinnati. The summit aimed to focus on economic strategies impacting the regional segment of the waterway, inviting community leaders in economic development, the maritime industry, and local municipalities to attend. This event highlighted the importance of the Ohio River in shaping communities, industries, and jobs across southern Ohio.
Convention District Overhaul
To attract larger international events, Cincinnati has invested $800 million to overhaul its convention district. Central to this transformation are two major projects: a $240 million renovation of the Duke Energy Convention Center, reopening in January 2026, and a new $536 million, 700-room Marriott headquarters hotel, scheduled to open in 2028. These developments aim to position Cincinnati as a top-tier destination for global meetings and conventions.
Oktoberfest Zinzinnati and Navy Week
Looking ahead, Cincinnati is set to host Oktoberfest Zinzinnati from September 18-21, 2025. This event is the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Munich, attracting visitors from around the world. Additionally, Navy Week Cincinnati 2026 is scheduled for September 14-20, 2026, coinciding with Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. This week-long event will feature Navy bands, interactive displays, and STEM demonstrations, further connecting Cincinnati to national and international audiences.
